Game-based learning can be a good approach to engaging and competency building teaching, if done right. With this course we offer a practical introduction on how to incorporate gaming elements in your existing teaching material and curriculum, but also how to design your teaching based on skills and competencies acquired through gaming.
The course will include hands-on examples of existing learning designs as well as production of your own designs, tailored to fit your subject, school system and experience. The final day of the course will be spent at the EASIE Conference.
The aim of this course is to provide teachers at all levels of education with the basic knowledge and skill set required to introduce gaming and e-sports into their classrooms.
Day 1: Presentations on the use of games in teaching; learning outcomes, student engagement and points to consider. Implementation of e-sports in the classroom. Workshop: How is game-based learning experienced by the students – testing of learning designs.
Day 2: Resources: examples of free games/websites, what should you look out for when looking for useful materials? Design of “loose assignments” which are not based on specific games. Workshop: Production of learning designs to bring home and use in your own classroom
Day 3: EASIE Conference
