Broad student guidance for students with special needs

This job shadowing focuses on integrated student guidance for vulnerable adult learners. The programme will explore how an adult education centre combines language learning, basic skills development, individual learning pathways and guidance for learners who need additional support, including migrant adults.

Participants will observe how the host organisation works inclusively with heterogeneous learner groups. The centre offers second chance education as well as preparatory and vocationally oriented programmes. Particular attention will be given to the participation of learners with disabilities or additional support needs within the same educational organisation.

The host centre works with specialised support professionals, including special needs teachers. Participants will explore how these professionals collaborate with teachers and guidance staff, how different levels of support are organised, and how learning pathways are adapted to learners’ individual needs. Observations and professional exchanges will also address the transition towards vocational learning, workplace learning, supported employment or other realistic next steps.

The programme will additionally examine how language learning, basic skills and guidance can be combined in coherent pathways for migrant adults. Participants will reflect on how similar forms of integrated student guidance could strengthen participation, progression and inclusion in the Flemish adult education context.
